Rural Municipality Economic Environment
R.M. of Newcombe # 260
The municipality borders the South Saskatchewan River and contains two community pastures and some 12,000 acres of river-edge pasture leased from the Crown. Grain, livestock and market garden production make up the agricultural industry in the 10.5 township municipality. The 2001 taxable assessment was $42 million. There is also some oil and gas activity in the municipality.
R.M. of Chesterfield # 261
The municipality is archaeologically rich with Aboriginal artifacts. Grain farming and ranching form the agricultural industry with oil being found in the northwest portion. The R.M. of Chesterfield has a taxable assessment of $7.8 million in 2001, 18.20 % from oil and the rest from agriculture.
R.M. of Kindersley #290
There are 24 townships within the R.M. of Kindersley. The 2002 taxable assessment was $157,431,775. Agriculture accounted for $106,422,155 and $37,939,600 from oil.
R.M. of Milton #292
Fertile farmland is the main resource of the municipality with oil and gas as a secondary industry. The municipality's 2001 taxable assessment is $45.1 million of which $26.1 million is derived from agriculture and $18.4 million from oil and gas.
R.M. of Winslow #319
The R.M. contains nine townships. Agriculture, mostly grain production, and oil and gas are the major industries. The interprovincial pipeline runs through the municipality. The 2001 taxable assessment of the R.M. of Winslow was $109,655,110; agriculture accounts for 70% of that figure.
R.M. of Oakdale #320
Agriculture and oil, discovered in the municipality in 1951, form the six-township municipality's economic base. The 2001 taxable assessment was some $150 million. Oil and gas accounted for $118 million and agriculture accounted for $32 million.
R.M. of Prairiedale #321
The R.M. has a taxable assessment of $52.3 million of which just over half is due to the oil industry and the rest to agriculture.
R.M. of Antelope Park #322
The R.M.'s nine townships contain a large community pasture in the center surrounded by grain and livestock operations. For more than 20 years, oil and gas have contributed significantly to the revenue base of the municipality. The 2001 taxable assessment totals $47 million; oil and gas account for $33 million of that total.
R.M. of Mariposa #350
The R.M. contains nine townships. A 24,280-acre PFRA pasture was started in 1938. Agriculture, mainly grain and livestock, is the main industry in the municipality.
R.M. of Progress #351
Grain and livestock are important industries in the R.M. of Progress and the oil and gas industry is gaining importance with eight pipelines running through the municipality.
The R.M.’s taxable assessment is $70,443,345, split almost evenly between the agriculture and oil and gas sectors.
